An Aussie faces extradition to the US to face piracy charges after the FBI claims he was the leader of a $6.5 million software copying racket.
The Feds claim that Sean Patrick O'Toole, 26, was the mastermind behind a secret network which copied pirated films include Sin City, Closer and Meet the Fockers, games Super Streetfighter II, NASCAR Simracing and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005, and software from Microsoft, Intel and Hewlett-Packard.
According to the Chicago Tribune, O’Toole was known by the handle of "chucky" was the de facto leader and set policy for the group which called itself the Rise in Superior Couriering (RISCO).
According to court documents one of RISCO’s servers recorded uploads and downloads of more than 19,000 gigabytes.
Risco used sophisticated security measures to conceal its doings and no one really knew it existed. The Feds infiltrated the group through the aid of an informant who maintained one of the main servers. More than 19 other people are also likely to face charges.
